Its an experiment in colour coding, each of the first four pages introduces a couple.
The last resolves their relationships for the short. Each couple has their own colour pallet.
I’ve done a few music themed comics like this for anthologies, it’s always interesting to interpret songs. Some have been with other writers who I find too often end up trying to overwrite the story, which for me kind of misses the most interesting challenge and loses the pace of the song you’re mirroring.
I’ve for a while now had a great affinity for poetry as a model for how to write comics and with work like these shorts based on a song, it’s the perfect place to take things in that direction, IMO.
You don’t have to, but I recomend hitting play on the imbedded clip here, and then read the comic along with the music. The words are a bit different but they echo the song so you should be able to figure out where you are with each verse.
